Captain James Cook is widely acknowledged as one of the best seamen and probably the greatest explorer, surveyor, and mapmaker during the great age of exploration. He was commissioned to explore to the South Seas and the South Pacific before his third voyage which took him again to the South Pacific, then on to Hawaii and eventually to the Northwest coast of America in search of the Northwest Passage. This gallery includes includes two maps, ten illustrations and one book, most of which focus on Nootka Sound on the west coast of Vancouver Island.
